If you enjoy games where you are rewarded for your inquisitiveness, and you aren't trying to beat the game in as short a time as possible, well this is the game for you! I have heard Reckoning as being compared to a juiced down version of Skyrim. TBH I couldn't get into Skyrim no matter how hard I tried. It just didn't do it for me. Now, Kingdoms of Amalur had me hooked in about an hour. The graphics are bright...the weapons look cool...and the battles are exciting! True, the game isn't going to introduce you to a new type of monster throughout the game, nor will you find any sort of different herbs or chests to utilize/open as the game progresses...But, you will increase your powers and akill sets with noticible improvement. The weapon types are minimal but the variety within those types varies enough to make rare weapon discoveries exciting from start to finish. I could go on and on...but I won't. If you enjoy games that reward exploration with cool gear and you arent trying to get a medal for the qickest RPG game finish of the year, get this game and prepare yourself for about a week or two of fun.

Story: 5 ---You have to kill the big bad guy because um... it's not your destiny? I'm sure that made sense before they turned into the main plot of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. --- Visuals: 6 --- Yeah, it's a world space, a very well-made world space but not really anything to write home (or a review) about. --- Sound: 6 --- There's music and the VO doesn't suck. What else do you want? --- Combat: 10 --- Let's face it slaughtering a myriad of meatbags with an incomprable armada of spells and special abilities is just plain fun. The levels are well-designed and the abilities are even better. The only bad part about the combat is how weak most of the enemies are. But it's not such a big deal when you're slaughtering dozens of them every 30 seconds and the developers do a lot to provide a good pace. ---- Game Design: 7 --- Kingdoms of Amalur doesn't do a whole lot but what it does do is a lot of fun combat and a lot of cool special abilities. So is it poorly designed? No, it's good. Not perfect, not great but indeed good. --- Fun Factor: 10 --- I said that already didn't I? This game is long and fun to play. In every other way it is mediocre but hey, when you rock at doing one thing you may as well rock it as well as Kingdoms of Amalur does. --- Overall: 8 --- Very fun, very long, not much else but who needs flash when you;'ve got fun? It's a game right?

Quick Review: Don't compare this to other games.

I see too many people comparing this to Skyrim, which is just silly. It's almost nothing like that. Others compare it to Fable. This is closer, but still it's far different. It is closest to Fable 1 and in many ways, Kingdoms of Amalur is what Fable should have been, at least to me.

This game takes small ideas from many other games and genres, but is very much a new world and new idea separate from anything before. Just as it would be wrong to say, "Halo is like Call of Duty in space" I think it's wrong to call this "Fable with World of Warcraft graphics and Elder Scrolls type story/background".

Anyways, I liked this game a lot. I played through it as Warrior with Broadsword not a single skill outside of warrior. I loved it this way, especially late in the game when some very cool armors and weapons were available.

The fighting system was great, fast, and fun. Some may have a bit of trouble at first, especially if you are loyal to one weapon class like me, only using broadswords, but once you figure out when and how to block and counter well, it is extremely fun.

I've heard others call the story shallow, full of characters who don't have depth or emotions. Well, I can't comment much on that. This game has a huge amount of story put into the game. Much of this is backstory and information about the world's races and government and nature, for the die hard fantasy fans to read.

But even the dialogue you have to get quests and proceed with the story is lengthy, and very early in the game, I decided to skip all of it. YES, ALL OF IT.

This is because the fighting is so fast and furious, yet reading and listening to people talk is so slow, and a bit tiring. The contrast was too great for me. It was hard to keep my energy for battle after speaking to someone for my next quest. Too bad, because it all seemed quite interesting to me at a glance.

Once I began skipping all speech, I was able to keep a fast fun pace, and the game was still very long and fu

Perfect

The most fun I've had in years

The visual details in this game are simply stunning. The world, quite literally, comes alive around you. As you wander the wilderness, plants come to life near you. The more magic you use, bigger, and more, plants will come to life, and actually lean towards you.

The volume of lore, also, is truly astounding (I mean, come on ... R.A. Salvatore wrote 10k years worth of history for Amalur).

The combat is fluid and exciting, and far more gratifying than many other games out there (Insead of: "click click click click click done." Not here! It's more like: "dodge, attack, roll left, roll right, attack, roll left, swap weapons, attack, roll back, attack with a spell, roll forward, attack". It's just ... fun!)

I can't recommend this game enough.

It's getting really good reviews. It's not a bad game just kinda the same as other games I guess... the game doesn't have alot going on besides just go to this quest then go do that quest.
